I really only follow baseball so I will confine my comments to Ryan Howard. Is he worth 25 mill a year? It depends on how you look at it. In this era of baseball, owners are looking for the longball and a brand. Howard has decent power, while hitting for a fair average in a league where average is less important than power. Long story short, he is becoming the face of the phillies. He puts butts in seats and he is exciting to watch because there is always the possibility that he will go yard. He is worth it to the owners, perhaps not as a player, but who knows, contracts are signed on expected performance. Maybe at the end of five years everyone will look back and say that was the best money the phillies ever spent. That being said, what is Albert Pujols gonna get on his next contract? He hits for power as well or better than Howard, but actually hits for average too.
