.2kg Over

Trey Kirby wrote an article about a luger disqualified for her equipment weighing in at .2 kg over weight. Kirby stated the line had to be drawn somewhere, but this seemed a little harsh. Too Harsh Really? Don’t tell that to a collegiate or high school wrestler who is disqualified when their body weight is more than a tenth of a pound overweight. This is her equipment. She didn’t have to run for hours, not eat for weeks, or spit in a cup too make the weight. All she had to do was a math problem and remove the weight. Maybe it is a strict rule and maybe it was an accident or an honest mistake so what. The rules have to be followed and the rule is not whether the luger intentionally brought overweight equipment but whether the equipment was actually overweight. Sure there are worse problems in sports such as blood doping etc. but that doesn’t mean all rules should be forgotten until the serious infractions are all enforced. Like it or not she broke the rule.
