For the past few years I have had to find some reason to be excited about the stretch run in baseball because the Mets have fallen off the face of the earth before September arrives. This year I would like to officially thank Brandon Phillips. You have brought fire to the Cardinals vs Reds and got me excited to see the two teams do battle down the stretch. In case you haven't heard Phillips made a slew of comments about the St Louis team which summed up said that the Cardinals were a bunch of whiners and he hated their team. Well the fireworks didn't take long Tuesday to go off. As he stepped to the plate in the 2nd inning Yadier Molina got right in Phillips face with a bench clearing following. Update: After the game backup Catcher Jason LaRue complained of getting kicked in the head and had abrasions to his face and La Russa said he may have a minor concussion. Cardinals Pitcher Chris Carpenter also explained of getting kicked by Reds Pitcher Johnny Cueto. Carpenter only had minor scratches to his back. At this point there have been no suspensions or fines but that will probably be coming soon.
